i was prescribed Maxalon 3 times a day I was so sick with my last pregnancy's now i am pregnant with twins my sickness is not so bad just nausious. I take Blackmores vitimans , One called Pregnancy and breast feeding and that has all the vitimans you need pregnant, I also take Blackmores morning sickness formula which contains Vitamin B and Ginger, It really helps take the edge of being sick. If you wife is really bad then you should take her to the hospital she may be dehydrated and need some fluids into her. Run her a nice warm bath and tell her to relax in it for a while, and should make her bit sleepy afterwards. Good Luck and Congrats

If she has morning sickness (which many women know doesn't always happen in the a.m.) there isn't much you can do. You could get her some ginger tea. Ginger ale doesn't have ginger in it any longer so that's pretty useless. Give her crackers to eat in bed before she gets up. Helps some.
If she has an illness, well, I guess I'm surprised as most pharmacies are open until at least 9 p.m. You'll just have to wait until morning unless you have a 24 hour one close by.

Fun stuff right? I found ICE cold water with lemon and peppermint very helpful even try icing mint tea w/lemon. Small frequent meals, keep crackers or pretzel's close on hand and my guess is if you know whats good for you find a 24 hr. pharmacy. I am pretty sure benadryl is OK, but JUST benadryl not cough + or any multi symptom stuff. If she goes to hosp she'll get reglan or something similar and stronger than any OTC meds. Was she given a diagnosis? If so go to the ER, if not get through the night.
Sleep tight

I also had HORRIBLE morning sickness.
I was prescribed phenegren. It worked only so-so. Then I was prescribed a medication, and I am SORRY but I cannot remember it, that is used with cancer patients during chemo therapy. It is super expensive, like $40 or so per pill. My insurance would only cover 1 prescription of it every 5 years.
I was HORRIBLY sick and the chemo pill was the only thing that took the edge off of it.
Good luck. If your wife has severe nausea like I did (throwing up several times a day), your doctor may write her a script for this medication.

Have her try to eat some protein - the only thing that made me feel better was string cheese but anything with protein like peanut butter crackers or maybe a turkey sandwich. Also a cup of decaf tea helped me relax. My doctor prescribed me phenagren which I believe is an antihistamine and is supposed to make you drowsy. I found a list of safe meds on babycenter but it says after the first trimester so I don't know if that will help. Good luck and Congratulations! Tell her to hang in there it will pass.

Yes. If she is only trying to get some sleep. She can take Tylenol extra strenth that is safe . No tylenol P.M. Just the extra strenth My wife went through the same thing. That should help her she can take that with water. No soda if she is really nauses it may come back up but if she wants she can try it with ........Canada Dry Ginger Ale my wife said that particular brand helped her. Usually once the Tylenol get into the system the baby becomes tired so it will make your wife tired but Tylenol regular or extra strenth is the only safest thing. Good Luck! And welcome to the club.

My daughter went through this with both her pregnancies, was, ooooohhhh, so sick. Unfortunately, the medication they used to give when I was pregnant was taken off the market due to lawsuits, and the pharma companies won't risk it because every time someone has a birth defect, they blame the meds.
Sooo, the best thing is rest, clear liquids, and ginger. If she gets too dehydrated, they'll hospitalize her and get her stabilized. My daughter was hospitalized three times with her last one.
Wish I could give you better news, but she'll get through it, and the baby will be worth it. Good luck!

She should not take anything for pain except for Tylenol! Tylenol is the only thing doctors will let you take for pain, and the package only says that to cover their own butts, but its perfectly fine. No asprin or anything else. As for the other medications, most likely she can NOT take them, but you need to ask a doctor asap. Better yet, Look up a 24 hour Walgreens or CVS pharmacy and ask them RIGHT NOW before she takes anything else! :) Pharmacists sometimes know more about the drugs than doctors do.

I would put a call in to your local ER and ask them what over the counter meds are ok for her to take. I know there are a couple (usually tylenol, and there was another one they let me take earlier this year) that are safe and they should be happy to let you know. Especially when she's pregnant you can always use the "I don't want to be a bother, but better safe than sorry" approach and they should be happy to help.
PS--very sweet of you to be helping her out. She will need that through her pregnancy. It can be very difficult to not be able to do things you're used to doing because you have to look out for the baby.

Best advice for a newly pregnant wife who's very sick is NOT to listen to a bunch of treatments from people not qualified to do so. Too much at risk. Ask a professional doctor. They have nurses on call 24/7 to answer these kinds of questions. You could also go to websites like webmd. Don't ask a bunch of Yahoo's like us.
