Doing what I'm about to say will just make you fat after the first few weeks, but...

Eat a Wendy's Classic Double. That thing will put you out within minutes.
As far as waking up...I've never been a fan of alarms(which a lot of people might suggest) so what I do is sleep near a window and make sure it's open (curtain or otherwise). It accomplishes two things. One, depending on the time of the year, the sun will rise in your face and wake you up. And 2, if it's before dawn, the cold air will keep you shivering enough to wake you up.
If you're not a fan of any of that...just drink water before you go to bed. If you're like most people, you'll wake up close to dawn to go to the bathroom.

Try exercising during the day or even before you go to bed.... about an hour before you want to get in the bed. Or try reading before you're ready for bed.
If things like that don't work for you then try something over the counter like Tylenol PM, etc.
If THAT doesn't work then I would definitely talk to the doctor about it.
I had the same problem and ended up needing a prescription just to get at least 4 hours sleep... but I'm an insomniac. FUN STUFF! :)

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress,
dietary and medical problems. By making
small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly,
insomnia can be cured. I found the information
at http://nosleep.in/howtogetsleep.html

Honey!
Wrong category!

Just go to bed at the same time everyday. Get up at the same time, even if you're still sleepy. Eventually you'll sleep.

Wait until you're really, REALLY tired. Based on personal experience, when I feel that way its usually pretty easy to get to sleep.

you could try sleeping pills. this is not a long-term solution though. when you get comfortable going to bed at that time, you can stop taking them.
