i heard that if i put tooth paste on my yfz450's plastics and brush it they would look new again. is this true?

Be careful with how much you rub on the plastics. You my not think it, but it will generate heat when rubbing. This will slightly discolor them. This is why you should do it by hand, not a buffer or other tool. Check out Plastic Renew if they are in rough shape. Worked well on mine. I used this after trying rubbing compound. Also for a great shine, if the are not scratched too bad, use tire wax. You can find this at auto parts stores.

Any abrasive will likely just scratch the plastics. As suggested, a coat of wax will help protect the plastics. To get the plastics to look good you can "flash" them with a heat gun on low. This will give the shiny look again. Try doing a search, I remember seeing a site with pics of the process. Good luck.

I would think that toothpaste would act as an abrasive such as rubbing compound.
A good plastic polish, or wax would be the better choice.
If you want to try the toothpaste, use it on the back of a side cover, or underneath a fender, in case it scratches the plastic.
