Assuming it's on the screen itself, this could be difficult depending on the surface type of the screen. If it's on one of the 'shiny' type screens, then you may be better off than if it's on one of the matte screens.

For either of the types of the screens, you can try Goo Gone. It won't damage plastics and should be fine for a screen. But, test it in a small place before proceeding. Use Goo Gone sparingly as it is kind of oily and runny, you don't want to get it inside the notebook. Apply it with a clean unused microfiber cloth to prevent scratching the screen.

Do not use nail polish remover as this contains acetone and may damage or cloud plastic. I also don't recommend clorox cleanup wipes as they may contain solvents that could also damage plastic. I'd stick with Goo Gone. You might also try, as other people have suggested, alcohol. I'm just not sure of the success of getting permanent marker off with alcohol. If that doesn't work and your guy has the accidental damage warranty service, then have the unit repaired with a new screen.

Good luck.

I think Adam may be on to something. I know alcohol will cut India Ink, just not sure about Sharpie.

Motorcycle shops have a super fine polish that can be used on the plastic windshields on bikes. There are several brand names but anybody at a bike shop should be able to help you.

There is a product called Goof Off that might work. Try it in a corner that he doesn't use. It's available at paint department and probably the hardware section of a major supermarket.

As a last resort, and I do mean last, you might have to go with toothpaste. Ask a dentist or dental assistant which toothpaste is the LEAST abrasive.

I hope that helps, several ideas and I listed them in the order I would try them. Any questions on any of these email me through my profile. We NEVER close.

Lay screen flat Buy a screen cleaning kit Its about $22 at best buy. Try that first. If you try other methods first you may scratch the screen. If the first method fails Buy 90% alchol and use the cloth from the cleaning kit and it should remove without scratching the screen Ask somebody that wears reading glasses if you should use cotton cloth or napkins NOT! If its a real small spot you might get away with a cotton swab

nail polish remover will turn many plastics to goo, completely embedding the ink into the plastic and specific deforming it too. you could desire to think of the demonstrate of a working laptop or laptop is glass, in spite of the shown fact that it has a polymer coating. in case you prefer to objective polish remover, attempt it on a ingredient you cant see first like the backside of the backside. that's no assure it won't react with the liquid crystal demonstrate coating, in spite of the shown fact that that's a hallmark of the capability of your kind of remover. Magic erasers are abrasive, so while you're conversing concerning the liquid crystal demonstrate itself, and not the lid, you could placed everlasting scratches or swirls into the demonstrate. liquid crystal demonstrate coatings are skinny and scratch actual. One individual reported scribbling over the section with an identical sharpie and wiping it off. I trust this or with utilising Isopropyl Alcohol (rubbing alcohol), yet with the addition of spraying it with Windex when you scribble over the marked section...additionally I propose in basic terms waiting approximately 3-5 seconds until eventually now including the windex. Wipe off with a lint unfastened fabric if attainable or paper towel or kleenex. be careful if all you have is paper towel, spray it with windex first, by using fact dry paper towel is abrasive sufficient to scratch an liquid crystal demonstrate coating.

try using clorox wipes or lysol wipes...if that doesn't work, try something that uses the same chemicals in lysol/clorox but more concentrated and stronger...maybe like nail polish remover?
