It is pretty much a myth. However, near the "Bermuda Triangle" area is a collection of methane vents. In the years when the Bermuda Triangle disapperances where most often, planes used open-air engines that are shut down when they come in contact with large concentrations of methane. It's also possible that the vents got blocked up. Methane would ahve build up under large pressure. When it released, if there was a ship close by, it would turn over and sink. There was a program on the Discovery Channel a few years ago, and they showed that methane vents could be responsible for most of the Bermuda Triangle disappearances.

Its real. There is nothing paranormal or mysterious about it though. The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil's Triangle, is a region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean where a number of aircraft and surface vessels allegedly disappeared mysteriously. Popular culture has attributed these disappearances to the paranormal or activity by extraterrestrial beings.[1] Documented evidence indicates that a significant percentage of the incidents were inaccurately reported or embellished by later authors, and numerous official agencies have stated that the number and nature of disappearances in the region is similar to that in any other area of ocean.

The bermuda triangle actually has a magnetic field below the bottom of the ocean. Not every plane that flies over over it go down. There are certain times that it releases some type of magnetic air wave that screws up machines and stuff.
It's just bad luck for the people who happen to be flying over at that time.

It seems to me that a lot of people think that it is real and a lot of people think it isnt.
When planes and ships go into that area and disappear.. it happens sometimes but not always. There are ships though, for a fact, that have disappeared. Its is thought to be some type of megnetic field.
However most planes and ship refuse to travel in that area because of the stories.
Check out these websites it will give you a bunch of information.

there is a region in the bermuda triangle made up of islands that look similar to the florida keys. sometimes, when pilots headed west see these islands they think they've gone too far west, so they head north/northeast. when they don't see anything, they go farther east, which just leads them further away from florida. by the time they realize they're mistake, if they do, they've run out of gas -- transatlantic flights require a lot of gas.
