With a self-published book, you lose money. That's how it works since you have to pay for publication.
With a small publisher, you are looking at less than $300 unless you really get out and market it.
With a major publisher, you would get between $10K and $30K IF you can get accepted. They don't take poetry books from unknowns, though.
If you want to increase your chances of getting your book published by a royalty paying author, start submitting your poems to major magazines. Get The Poet's Market and use it.

Major publishers aren't seeking poetry. Most of them won't even take queries for them. And neither will agents. Think about it. Which has a better chance of selling? A high body count thriller by Dean Koontz or a volume of poems? The thriller wins out every time. Poetry sadly is a dead end for the most part.
Do your research. Go to the bookstore. How many poetry books are there currently for sale at the average Barnes and Noble? Probably less than 100 titles in all those books in the store.

The only way you can sell poetry is to a small, literary press. However you will probably average less than 100 sales. Small presses don't do much if anything to get your book in stores. You will sell copies to friends and family. That is about it. You also have to worry about that small press being legit or on the verge of bankruptcy. Many go under each week.
You have to learn how to check out a publisher and make sure they are legit.
I have starred a lot of important Q and A here in books and authors so you don't have to search through Resolved Questions for good info. Just make me a friend or whatever you call it and access my list. Print out a lot of the Q and A I have selected and study them. They will help you a lot.
As for things like Triond, they are totally useless. You will make pennies. Read what A Crispin and Victoria Strauss, two very well known people out there trying to stop scams in publishing, have to say....

You should take a look at booksurge.com (a subsidiary of amazon.com.) They use Publishing-On-Demand, which means that they print books after they've been ordered so that you don't have to worry about selling a certain amount of books. There are a lot of details to work out but they offer 10-25% royalties of the gross sale. And the best part is they'll publish anything, including poetry. Includes cover lay-out and you have control over how much to sell your book for.

Very, very little. If you are a first-time author, you will have a lot of problems selling a fair number of copies of a poetry book, unless you have amazing publicity. Definitely don't invest a lot of money into this venture (if you're self-publishing, otherwise you probably won't have to anyways) if you'll want it back.

I believe you get a certain cent amount for each book bought...and that cent amount varies depending on which publishing comany you go with. Of course, you'll never know exactly how much money your book will make since it all depends on how many people purchase it (look at J.K. Rowling).
Best of luck with your book of poetry, I hope you do well!! :)
