Yes they retired the number in honor of Michael Jordan way back in 2003. When they first retired the number they used a jersey with a two color design. One half was blue to signify him being a Wizard and the other half red being a Bull.
This was the words Pat Riley recited on the occasion: "In honor of your greatness and for all you've done for the game of basketball -- and not just the NBA, but for all the fans around the world -- we want to honor you tonight and hang your jersey, No. 23, from the rafters, No one will ever wear No. 23 for the Miami Heat. You're the best." Jordan then hugged Riley and waved to the crowd.

it probably brings back bad memories. He didn't win a ring in the 1990's and Jordan was a major reason why. The only exception was in 1994 when MJ retired and his team lost to the Houston Rockets. John Starks cost him that title. But MJ was the reason a lot of stars didn't win rings so maybe every arena should just retire MJ's jersey because he provided the home team with plenty of excitement and whether your team won or lost MJ would usually give you 30 pts or more including at least 6 highlights. AAHHHH, the good ole' days!!!

Good, They want the NBA to retire his Number like the NHL with #99 Wayne Gretzky and in Major League Baseball with #42 Jackie Robinson, #23 Can't be Worn By any other NBA Player ever again.

The number has actually been retired by the Heat organization for quite some time now, and it is for Jordan. I believe the last player for the Heat to don the number 23 was guard Rex Walters

The Rays are having somewhat trouble good now. 3. My team is the Bosox, and that that they had a double header as we talk.
