I just sat down at my computer and noticed that on both sides, right around my bettas gills it's very light. It's a shiney bright red. I dont know what is wrong with it. I got it about a week ago. It's in a 2.5g filtered tank. A small live plant is in the tank. I'm been feeding it Aqua Culture Betta pellet food. It is a moderatly (sp?) active dark blue betta with bright green in him. He's been eating fine. He does not seem to be bloated. His scales are not sticking out. I dont know what else to say. I dont know what of this will help. I know quite a bit about fish but I still dont know a lot of the illnesses. Please help.

They normally get a lot brighter and develop more intense colors once you get them home. Most fish do in fact. They reflect their stress level and quality of water in their coloration. Once they are in a healthy, stable environment they start looking a lot better and colors that were dull or washed out in the store will start to re-appear.
Fish food normally has a lot of red shell fish, so they tend to bring out oranges, pinks and reds.

I'd say that nothing is wrong with him. If his gills are shiny and kind of see through that probably just means he is not done growing or just plain normal the way he is. If he starts eating not in his usual way try Betta color enhancers. That could also be the problem that you are not giving him certain foods with certain minerals to keep his color full, bright, and healthy. Any other questions and I would try asking a fish expert at a pet store. Hope I helped!

It could just be the way your fish was born, it could possibly just be a design. :)
If you notice your beta being a bit wobbly or swimming funny, then monitor it and see if it's getting enough oxygen, or if that light spot could be something wrong with the gills.

well there is a sickness that fish can get and its called ick but even if you fish dose have it i dont think the symptoms match the sickness.
