Set the equation equal to zero and solve for x.

y = x² - 5x + 3

x² - 5x + 3 = 0
x = [5 ± √(5² - 4*1*3)] / (2*1)
x = [5 ± √(25 - 12)] / 2
x = [5 ± √13] / 2

Put 0 in for y and solve (use quadratic formula). Note: there will be two x-intercepts.
