Im thinking of putting some sort of chiclid community together into my 55 gallon aquarium.
is it true that american cichlids cannot be mixed with african cichlids?
and what will i feed the cichlids?
brine shrimp
or anything of that sort? or just flakes?

It is true that you shouldn't mix American cichlids and African cichlids in the same tank. That really doesn't work out well at all in the long run and usually ends in the death of fish.

Brine shrimp is a good food for some cichlids, but not all.

I would suggest you first decide on either American cichlids or African cichlids and go from there. Then you can more easily address what will and won't work for a 55 gallon tank.

If I can help feel free to email me.
