I giggled when I read your question. But I'm laughing with you, not at you. If there were a permanent solution, the person who came up with it would be a billionaire. You'll never be permanently weed free. Just be loyal about plucking the weeds as you find them. Mulch areas around shrubs and in flowerbeds to keep the weeds down. If you keep at it, a little bit everyday, the weeds won't get the best of you. Pluck them as you come and go from the mailbox or when you come in from work. Then you won't wind up spending entire afternoons weeding.

Simply put.... you can't. Unless you cover your entire yard in some sort of hard surfacing such as concrete.

Weeds are something like rats and cockroaches. Man simply keeps them under control but they will never go away 100 percent.

Birds, rodents and other critters transfer weed seed to your property and so does the wind. The best we can do is to spray them, pull them are keep them cut down so that they cannot create seed.

If you live in the country you could go to the local extension office and find out what would work the best for your weeds. Or you could go to a farmer in your area and ask them. My brother spray his bean field next to my garden and did a good job on my weeds. The only problem with that it got rid of my tomatoes, corn, and just about every thing but my green beans.

Here's a recipe for making your own weedkiller. It's cheap and it works.

* 1 gallon of distilled vinegar
* 1 cup of salt
* 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap

Spray directly on weeds, they'll die within a day or so.

You can put weed cloth down and then bark on top of that and you will not have to deal with weeds for a year or two, but they are tough to get rid of complete... Pavement? Weeds are a pain.

Get rid of the yard!! J/K
Either you live with it or use Ortho Weed-B-gon. Couple applications, when its warm & Sunny. It works very well but I do not beleive it to be permanent.
Also, setting your mower to a 3" height, so it shades out the weeds. The thing is that the weed commonly known as clovers actually restores nitrogen to the soil which can save you money and time!! ... and you can very seldomly get rid of it for more than a few months!!

You can't. New weeds will soon move in to replace any that you kill. The closest is soil sterilent, which is a chemical that prevents any plant growth in soil for about a year. Of course if you use it, you will also not be able to grow grass, flowers, trees....

The other solution would be to replace your grass with Astro turf or concrete.
