I definitely believe in all that you have said....I myself have found true value in reading...knowledge and POSSIBILITIES (that is from fiction of course) You learn and grow and also I think the biggest thing is that your imagination also grows.... With the way you enjoy books..I would say, for you, that maybe one day you will be a writer yourself!!!!!!!!!!

This is only my opinion you must understand. I find that when reading fiction books I sometimes think about where and how far the writer went to research his storyline. I have also found that a lot of non-fiction books are more biased towards only one way of thinking and everyone who reads this book or that is supposed to take what the writer wrote on faith as being gospel. So in essence, I see the fiction writer doing more research to get a better grasp on what he is writing than I would say 95 per cent of the non-fiction writers. Still, this is just my opinion.

Well, when I was a kid I read A LOT. My mom also read to me a lot. As I grew up I had a much easier time in all my English courses (except technical details). I knew how to say sentences, just not what they were made up of (verbs, adjectives, etc). Now that I'm in college I'm an English major, writing emphasis, and everyone tells me to READ - a lot. Stephen King also says to read a lot. If you want to write, reading is important for mental growth and also for experience. It broadens your thoughts and opens your mind. Plus, wouldn't you rather read than sit around and watch TV? :)

If I read a book that is extremly inspiring and say the character is very humble, brave, and kind, it will make me wish to be like the character and put my reading into actions. It gives me a headstart on other kids for learning different subjects in school and gettting more As in Literature :)

Fiction is practice at putting yourself in someone else's head. The world is a better place when people can do that.

Reading books broadens a person perspective; it increases their awareness of the world, its people and their vocations and interpersonal connections. It teaches cultures, brings to life dead civilizations, increases the imagination and helps keep a person from developing alzheimers or other forms of dementia.
