I came up with the answer 42ft

The perimeter is 42 feet; but you would need more; to allow for cutting and shaping. Unfortunately, too; you will find that if you were doing it yourself, you would need more; because the standard lengths of the boards you would buy from a timber outlet would not come in convenient 10 and 11 foot lengths. You could get them cut to size; but that would be more expensive, and you would have to be VERY sure of the exact lengths.
If it's for school homework, the correct answer is 42 (geometry is not always precisely practical)
edit: Oops, like you, I forgot about the door! (Say 3ft, making the total 39 ft)

It sounds right, but it can't be right, because then there would be no door in the room. How wide is the door, or are people supposed to drop into the room through a trap door in the ceiling?
