My husband traveled for work quite a bit around the time we had our son. He ended up being a premature baby but this is what my doctor told us when I was six months along and thinking of scheduling the birth.

For the best interest of the baby he advised again inducing unless we were overdue. The first lesson of being a parent is putting their best interest first. You are supposed to be pregnant for 40 weeks to give your baby the best chance of starting life with a strong and fully developed body. We should not schedule the birth to fit into our schedule.

Neither one of us liked hearing that but at the same time we realized that he was right.

Our baby was born 6 weeks early and rather than having Peter be able to be home for the first month he was only home for 9 days. The doctor was right to tell us that the baby will come when he is ready. We had many challenges and still do now that he is three and I would give anything to go back and give our little guy the extra 6 weeks getting ready to be born. I also have a friend who's baby was born at 38 weeks and spent a full month in the hospital due to breathing issues. The point is that you never know and as parents we should always error on the side of caution. My son was in the hospital less than a week and is healthy but isn't really talking much at almost 3 and still has sleep issues becuase of a small defect of his liver.

Good luck and I hope you and your wife base your decision on what is best for your baby!

It depends on the doctor... however... I think the earliest most doctors will enduce will be a week before the scheduled due date.

My husband is in the military and a month ago, he moved to South Korea - where he is now stationed. We spoke with our doctor about being enduced when he comes back to the states - so, we don't "waste" his entire mid tour leave without the baby being here... and the doctor told us, the earliest he would enduce us is 1 week prior!

I am currently trying to get over there, with him, and have the baby in South Korea... if that doesn't work out, and we have to wait for my husband to come home... we are on a tight schedule! He will only be home for 1 month... so, we are trying to find a good time to get him home and within a short period of time - have the baby here!

GOOD LUCK!

it will all depend on the circumstances of the baby. They will want to make sure the baby is nice and healthy first. All doctors are different and some will not induce labor without a medical reason. Just check with the doctor and I hope all goes well. Congrats Daddy

I was induced with both of my kids, and next time im saying no way.... it was very painful, more then it should have been, due to the strong contractions from the induction, i had serious bleeding the second time and was too weak to hold my baby after.... I feel so tramatized from my second birth i dont want anymore.... does that help?

I can't speak for her doc, but my doc would not induce because of this. Can't you change your plans? You need to be here for your wife so I think you should do whatever you need to to be there. Doctors usually only induce for medical reasons and I would really question a doctor if they induce labor for anyones convenience, yours or theirs.

This completely depends on the doctor and if he is willing to do that. You need to speak with him immediately. Usually you wouldn't need to "prove" it just let him know and ask if he'd be willing to accomidate you. Also be aware that induction isn't garanateed to work. sometimes if the baby just isn't ready they just don't come inspite of medications helping things to get started.
