I work with an IT firm as a consultant. I joined in 4 months ago. Now this fellow employee Mr X in the same project is trying to create a lot of problems. He is a fulltime employee who has been in the company from last 5 years, so he tries to dominate over everybody. Our project lead is himself a consultant who is scared to take any action against Mr X. Recently he tried to shove some junk work to me, thinking i will just do all the work he assigns me (mind you he is not my boss). But i refused to do that work since i has lots of other work already lined up. He tries to be a bottleneck to the entire project asking me to take his permission before doing an task, even though he is not my boss. Sometimes when i dont take his permission he fires and shouts at me over this.
Now this guy knows am a consultant and can be fired anyday without any notice. So he tries to take advantage of the above fact and tries to snub me. Can I talk to my cleint company HR manager about this? What to do??

In a recent meeting, he shouted at me for not doing something he asked me to do. He said this "How long can you do this, only more month! so do what you wanna do" in front of everybody. Does this mean he is plotting something, or complained something against me? and i will be fired? Or is this a scare tactic he is using to get me to be his kissass??

Yes you can! Belive it or not this is a form of harrassment. It is a way of baggering you. What he is doing is saying if you don't do my work I will get you fired. It is harrassment and if you talk to your HR then they can start to work on a plan to ether talk to this guy or move you to a differant area. Don't be afraid to loose your job if you tell. And if you contune to have problems with him after you talk to HR, don't think they did nothing talk to them again if they see a pattern it will be easer to correct. Hope I helped

Change your attitude, hon. When it rains lemons, make lemonade for pity's sake.

Okay... since you are on contract and you get paid the same whether the client is wasting your time or not, just talk to your actual boss and let him know this.

Either your boss needs to hire a go-fer to handle this crap work or he will have to pay you to do the crap work. It shouldn't matter to you. Your boss will have to take the heat for not being done on time or on budget, and all those overages will be passed on to Mr.X, who will eventually have to deal with the heat.

Keep a ledger of all the tasks you do, how long they take, and who assigned them and when. Even if it is just a record on a steno pad, or an Excel spreadsheet you print out and turn in with your timecard. You are documenting everything.

It is just a friggin' paycheck.

It's called harrassment. He is afraid of the capability you have to do a good job, that is why he is constantly on your tail about it.

If you lose your job and can prove his harrassment, take the mongrel for what he's got through an employment tribunal and take the company for not looking further into your claims.

i would speak to someone about it. talk to the hr department and see what they have to say. if he's not your boss then you don't need to be walked on like he's doing to you. he also needs to get rid of his ego and realize his place in the company.

Have you talked to your boss about this? You probably should.
