hiring your wife....probably didn't help....most people don't like or feel comfortable when the business owner brings in their wife......
...have some business meetings with your other workers to talk out things....ask them what they feel needs improving...and act on their responses.....include your business workers as a part of the business and get things working as smoothly as possible....everything will benefit from that.....the workers will be happier and the business will be healthier

Basically you are saying your wife was hired to spy on the employees? Of course they know why she is there. If you are going to treat them as if they are crooks and untrustworthy, then you are going to have mutinous behavior and backtalk. If they were so untrustworthy why did you hire them and why are they still working for you? Just the fact that you call them your workers and not employees blatantly tells the world you look down on them. It's no wonder they aren't giving you 100%. If you are interested in changing the attitude have a 10 - 15 minute meeting about changing the atmostphere at work. Put out a box that people can drop ideas in w/out having to sign their name to. This may give you an idea of what the problems are. But have an open mind when you see the answers and ask yourself, "Would I want to work for me?"

It sounds like you have a problem with your workers. Do you not trust them and that is the reason why you choose to bring on your wife for an extra eye and security. I would have a meeting and discuss the issues that are affecting your business, I would consult with a lawyer or maybe buy a contract writing program and draw up a contract stating the things that each employee needs to do and how they should conduct themselves at work and make each one sign it. Make sure that the repercussions are listed in the contract and follow them strictly. From what I gather about how you possed the question is that you might not spend a lot of time at the business or that you are too busy in maintaining the business to properly address whatever your problem is personally and that is why you hired your wife. Personally I believe having your wife on board is a smart idea, it good to have someone in your business that you can be sure is looking out for your interests. Good luck to you...

Well, if your workers need a watchful eye perhaps you should start interviewing to replace them. In the meantime, you need to make sure they RESPECT whomever you place in charge wife OR no wife. Whomever treats your wife badly should be the first head on the chopping block!

Good luck to all of you!

Do yourself a favor and get her out of there . . . this never, ever works . . . eventually you will have to make a decision between your business and your wife . . . not a pretty scenario.
