Many international cities have similar policies about car use within city cores.
It cuts back on congestion and gets people some exercise.
Certainly something that should be encouraged in North American cities.

I would say ideally they do. I am not really familiar with French cities, but would at the very least assume that Paris has a good public transportation system. Europeans tend to utilize public transit and bikes more often than Americans because for one there are many more people living in smaller areas and for two most European cities were developed before the invention of the automobile which encouraged urban sprawl and thirdly because fuel costs are much higher than in the United States.

I say if you have the public transit available, use it. If the weather cooperates and you don't have to ride too far, ride your bike. Why take a car when you will inevitably have to sit in traffic and waste fuel?

In many larger U.S. cities, people tend to drive to work alone. (One car - one commuter.) This is a ridiculous trend that causes quite a lot of damage to the environment. Provided public transportation were available in the form of buses and trains, it is a terrific idea to make people comply with any measures that will allow future generations to breathe clean air.

I personally do not want to to acknowledge terrorist by giving up freedom cause then they win.
