What could I take?? I've had this cough for just over a week now. Also should I bring it up at my appointment tomorrow? Any help is appreciated.

I'm 9 weeks pregnant so I do feel this is the right section to ask in.

It's not an infection, they checked at an ER for the antibodies and whatnot saying everything looked okay. I was thinking it was a cold, but it just isn't getting better...the other symptoms did, but not this stupid cough.

I just went to dr. with same thing, I coughed so bad that I thought I'd go into labor! They said it's an upper resparitory infection and gave me ammoxocillin and said to take Robitussin regular or dm only. I haven't taken the robitussin yet but after 2 days on antibiotics i'm feeling better. I'm not sure if that could be your problem too but at least the robitussin would help and is safe for pregnant women. The best thing would be ask your dr. as it could be an infection like i had and it needs to be treated.

Bring it up tomorrow, they'll want to check and make sure there is no infection or bronchitis.
When I was pregnant (wintertime) I got REALLY sick. I do know that cold medicines with guaifenesin are safe to take-but make sure to check the label. That should be the only active ingredient-so take Robitussin instead of Robitussin DM. HOT steamy showers also help to loosen phlem. Hot broth with a clove or two of raw garlic helps me. When you go to bed, use a vaporizer and Vicks Vapor Rub on your chest. Sleep with your head well propped to make breathing easier.
Did your doctor give you a list of pregnancy safe medications? Most offices I have heard of give a list of OTC meds that are safe so you don't have to call the office all the time. Other than that, you should be fine. It's a cold, they happen, and there are pregnancy friendly treatments. Most antibiotics and steriod inhalers (I.E. albuterol) are safe if it does get worse.

I'm going to look for the list that my dr. gave me and see what else is on there for you!-sorry can't find it. I also know that Tylenol Sinus is safe (I have bad allergies lol).
If you opt to not take cold medicine, but have difficulty sleeping, you can take Tylenol PM-the active ingredients are acetemenophin and Benadryl, both of which are pregnancy approved.

Bring it up at your appointment tomorrow. I'm going through the same thing, at the moment, and my family doctor prescribed something but said that I should check with my OB to make sure I can take it.

For now, lots of water will help break up the phlegm.

I hope you feel better.

I had a really bad cough at about 24 weeks and the doctor said to take plain robutussin. He also mumbled something about lungs and irritation and something about how it had to do with being pregnant and said it was normal.
He's vague...lol.
Go ahead and mention it since you'll be at the doctor's office, but he should tell you that plain robutussin and benydryl are both ok.
