I bought a car about two-months ago. I just found out that it needs a new engine, but I haven't been given the title yet. I'm not sure if I have any legal standings with the dealership. Any thoughts?

Where you given any kind of a warranty when you bought the car?

How long had you already been using the car when this problem developed?

I am not a lawyer but I know a little about your situation due to similar situations with family and friends. It depends on your contract. If it has a warranty the dealership is probably obliged to repair or replace, if it is in the contract. If it is a manufacturing defect you could go to the manufacturer. If it was used and you bought it "as is" then they are not obligated to fix it even if it goes bad 5 miles down the road.

By the way, don't be so picky about who you get help from, even lawyers don't know about everything..... there are different types of lawyers that know different laws. A lot of regular people probably know more about this than 90 percent of lawyers do.

If you have signed the contract the car is yours, the only thing you can do is try to make them fix it and how much they help depends on the contract. I hope you have it ensured though.

If it was a NEW car, it should be covered by the warranty. If it is a used car, it depends on whether it came with a warranty. If you bought a used car sold 'as is', you have no legal claim. Any reputable dealer will work with you to protect their reputation.

NOTE: Placing restrictions in your question about who answers, is a good way to guarantee most of your answers will come from people you asked NOT to answer.
