well the parenthesis mean multiply so you would multiply -9 by -2 and two negatives make a positive and 9 times 2 is 18 so positive 18!

Bandgeek is right. (-9) - 2 = -11.
(-9)(-2) = 18
The way to do subtraction is, if the signs are same, add and keep the same sign. If the signs are different, subtract and give sign of larger.
