I agree, you should read the book. Its a super quick read (an afternoon at most) and I bet you'll like it. After reading the book you will be able to answer those two questions with no problem.

The main conflict is between greasers and socs (soshs). The main greaser, Sasquatch, is in love with a Social girl. Her name is Sandra and she is a beauty school drop out. Her friends want to beat up Sasquatch for falling in love with Sandra.
The problem gets solved when Sasquatch helps Sandra get back into beauty school (by bribing the teachers). Man, it's a really good book. Definitely read it sometime.
