Hilary Clinton in the polls is sporting an almost 2 to 1 lead over the next highest polling Democrat, Obama. If you listen to the network news it's almost fait accompli: Now before you say anything, consider this question:

Could this be a set up to insure that the Republicans get exactly the candidate they want in the 2008 election?

Think about it:

1) The candidate with the highest disapproval rating of all candidates is leading the polls. She's hated by the right wing and listening to Air America out here in California, she's definately not loved here either.

2) Of all the candidates in the Democratic field, who do you think that the Republicans can throw the most dirt at? There is easily 15 years of dirt just from the second Bill Clinton took the oath of office to draw on.

3) Rove isn't retiring after Labor day for his health or a rap career. If the dirt flies, will the boy genius not be close to the shovel?

Just think about it a bit and answer.

Bekindtoanimals:
While you would think that people will turn a deaf ear to mud being hurled, how well did ignoring the mud work for Kerry.

Also, most political strategists work well outside of the limelight. The fact that he was so out front was unusual and the reason you can mention him by name. Most political operatives aren't that extroverted.

This the primary reason why I cannot, in good faith, support her candidacy. Even if she did manage to win the presidency, her tenure would be mired in constant attacks from the rabid right-wing and dirt being dug up in order to undermine her leadership. Therefore, no serious legislating can be done as the far-right would do everything in their power to destroy her. The only thing that could prevent such a scenario would be an overwhelming Democratic majority in both the House and Senate, and that is not very likely unless the Democrats themselves show some teeth and expose the GOP hitmen for what they really are: give them a taste of their own medicine.

People have pretty much caught on to Karl Rove and if the Republican party really had any values, they would get rid of the lying, manipulator from their party. He says volumes about why many people have a bad impression of the Republican party at this time.

The thing that will beat the democrats is the spinelessness they have shown thus far. They better develop a backbone soon, or their own party will turn on them if they haven't already.

People have become deaf to the dirt thrown at the Clinton's. They were under a microscope from the minute he took office until the day he left and all they could stick on him was Monica. It doesn't matter what the pubs say about her. Its expected. Dirt hurling is a Republican specialty.

EDIT: That's where Karl Rove showed his true lying colors at its best. Like I say, we're on to him now. Swift boat really shows what Karl Rove thinks of our men in uniform.

Well I think the democrats would be stupid to run Hillary, because she'd probably single handedly do more to mobilize anti democratic voting than any other candidate they could conceivably run.

Which isn't to say I think it's unlikely they'll just go ahead and do it anyway. I'd more likely ascribe it to Hillary's influence in the party than to gop skullduggery, though of course I'm sure she is the candidate the gop would most like to run against.

Heck she could even win. Though what chance she'd have to run an effective government in the face of such perpetual, rabid animosity I have no idea.
