very interesting. since I retired have the time but not the money to travel but when I was working had the money but not the time. a typical situation. however, am glad I can do what I want when I want to. am lucky as I have enough resources to prevent me from having to get a part time job.

That all IS very interesting. The French have a 35 hour work week and a minimum of 1 month of paid vacation per year. Some get as much as 6 weeks of vacation. You've got to wonder what they are retiring for. There is no overtime pay either.

It was thought that this system would lead to more employment for all but that is all fixing to change with the new President that was just elected. He wants to make France more productive and give people the incentive for working harder and more hours in a drive to make the country more competitive in world markets.

This is a very interesting survey, except that I am not at all surprised that the Italians and Spanish are good for doing nothing. They deserve to be AXA -d

What percentage of Americans travel abroad? I agree with fredrick z , we Americans work hard, pay taxes and after retirement have to find work to make ends meet. No, I haven't reached that age yet, but I have family and friends that have and it is not a pretty picture. I think we will start practicing now, Welcome to Walmart, need a buggy?' It is a big shame , but a scare too for our children and generations to come.

I don't know how accurate all these are but number 3 seems a little off-base to me. Specifically, "... Americans most likely travel abroad for long periods." Frankly, this seems like a crock to me.

In America post retirement means working as much as possible to get by. So many older Americans have had to swallow their pride and learn the phrase "Welcome to Wal-mart"
