Why is it, americans are willing to elect politicians that continue to be controlled by corporations. Politicians that allow the corps to make laws in their favor and NOT look out for common middle class people? Yet you scream and whine and cry at electing someone that might keep the corporations in control BUT raise your taxes a 100 dollars a year. WHY IS THAT?

Hey, do me a favor. Look up OPEC on the internet. That's the associationof countries that drill and sell oil. They've cut back the amount of oil they provide each year, they drilled a lot in the 90's, less in the 2000's. Know what that means? Higher prices due to less supply. Quit falling back on the "evil corporation" and "corrupt politician" argument, they're not reponsible for the decrease in world oil supplies.

because most people only ***** about what they are told to ***** about. Unless Rush Limbaugh and Fox News tell them to be outraged, they aren't. So when they happen to notice that their income is flat, they have so much debt they can't save anything, their health insurance doesn't cover what's it's supposed to or is taken away by their employer, their kids' school is overcrowded and ineffective and college is too expensive to send them to, at most they are puzzled, or worry that there is some Tony Robbins tape they haven't bought that tells them how to make enough money to surmount these problems. But if some demagogue on the radio tells them they need a two ton movie prop of the Ten Commandments in their courts, that gays marrying will magically make their kids gay, or that letting a woman whose brain has melted die, they will become apoplectic even though none of those things will affect their quality of life at all. You have to wonder if some people wouldn't be complaining about school prayer even as their children are being sold into slavery and they themselves are being marched into the gas chambers.

Corporations are fictitious entities, and thus incapable of engaging in the sort of activity you imply - consensually or otherwise.

Seriously, though, politicians are not controlled by corporations - they are controlled by the special interests who fund thier campaigns, and the party that nominates them to run. Those special interests /include/ corporations, but, the realities of campaigning and byzantine campaign-finance laws make it practical for much less financially monolithic interests to gather the funds necesary to 'buy' a politician.

For instance, in CA, public-employee unions wield tremendous power over our elected officials of both parties.

And, of course, you'd have no problem with the government tell you how to run your business right?

The price of gas has gone up because of increased demand from China and India. It's part of that whole supply and demand thing.. maybe you've heard of it?

Ask the nutcase liberals who voted people like Nancy Pelosi into the senate. I'm sure they could provide you with a hysterically honest answer.

The government should NOT step in - the SHAREHOLDERS should. Every publicly-held corporation has to answer to its shareholders, and most of us are too happy to have our shares grow to speak up.
