England should be a number one seed when the draw for Europe is conducted (along with other draws) in Durban in November. There will be nine pots -- the other sure number ones should be France, Italy, Spain, and Germany. Not knowing the formula for seeding, you have to consider Russia, the Netherlands, Portugal, and the Czech Republic as other possible number one seeds. That leaves some very good teams (e.g. Ukraine, Turkey, Croatia, Switzerland, Poland, Belgium, Sweden, Serbia, and Denmark) as likely number two seeds. It also leaves some dangerous teams falling to a number three or four seed (e.g. Ireland, Israel, Bosnia, Greece, Scotland, Romania, and Bulgaria).

The bottom line is that England should have a 50-50 chance at winning its group. Even if it doesn't win its group, it should finish in the top two and be one of the eight team in the playoffs (where it should have a slightly better than 50-50 chance of advancing). However, if it is drawn into a group of death, there is a real chance (maybe 1 in 10) that it could fail to finish in the top two.

They are currently ranked twelfth in the world and as the man said: Europe gets 13 slots. Obviously you are not an England fan - and they haven't been doing too well lately - but to not qualify would be a huge surprise.

People actually seem to forget how good England is on paper. They will definitely qualify. There is actually some hope for England since McClaren swallowed his pride and recalled the person with "the world's most famous left ankle" after kicking him off the squad months earlier. With his job on the line, McClaren is forced to use some common sense and not base decisions on his personal preferences.

I'm sure they'll qualify. Its not that hard, given that 13 teams qualify in Europe. But winning is way out of their grasp. But you never know.
