SYSTEM RESTORE XP & VISTA
BEST would be a TOTAL reinstallation but you COULD use system restore to take it back several weeks/months.
Vista
start--control panel--system & maintenance--back up & restore center--use system restore to fix problems--
choose restore point and wait for your computer to be restored to that date
XP:
START--ALL PROGRAMS--ACCESSORIES--SYSTEM TOOLS--SYSTEM RESTORE--RESTORE TO EARLIER TIME--NEXT--CLICK RESTORE POINT TO BE RESTORED TO--NEXT
WAIT TILL COMPUTER IS RESTORED TO YOUR CHOSEN DATE

Dell always puts the Operating System on the D drive, why they split the Drive? beats me! but that's where the OS is.

Best would be to use the RECOVERY disc that came with your Dell. It will return your PC to factory settings.
