ok,,,this is my question,,,,did they ever combine 8 tracks with a radio,,,am/fm,,,or am alone?or were 8 tracks always a separate deal,,,cassettes were am/fm cassettes,,but were 8 tracks their own entity always?,,and tell me how you know!!

At first, in about 1965, they were pretty much only available as aftermarket units only with the tape deck,then about a year later, aftermarket units had the options of am only, fm only or am/fm together. Also in about '66 or '67, they were available as a factory option in many cars that were in dash mounted, as opposed to the add ons previously were under dash mounted.

When I was a teenager (1970s), I was the proud owner of stereo (record player) with an am/fm radio and 8-track player. I had a set of the old big bulky headphones with a REALLY long cord so I could listen without bothering the family.
Mine was like the link below but had a plastic top to go over the turntable.

I had a home stereo with an 8 track, cassette, analog AM/FM tuner with a digital readout AND a record player. It was a single piece stereo (minus the speakers, of course)
