how can i lesson the effects of wash board,
I had my shocks looked at and they are fine, i tried over 100 pounds of sand in the back of the pickup and still super jaring.
Is this just how these small trucks handle. My whife hates it and thinks we are going to fly of the road. Driving faster is a bit smother, but dangerous and going slow is real bad unless i keep it around 5mph....are ther special shocks out there, or is is like they say Slow and Steady Wins the Race...

Thanks

If by wash board you mean shake and shimmy then try having a good front end shop evaluate the vehicle. An 89 probably has a lot of wear on the ball joints, tie rod ends etc. Also have the drive shaft U-Joints on both the front and rear shafts checked. Drive shaft vibration can rattle the fillings in your teeth if they get bad enough. I've driven a lot of 4x4's and while they aren't as smooth as a Cadillac they shouldn't be as bad as you're describing unless somethings wrong.

The Wrangler is the king of rock-crawlers. The FJ is a effective journey with a funky unfashionable-form to it based on the unique Land Cruiser and mythical Toyota reliability, yet for actual off-highway potential, the Jeep remains the champ. With a short wheelbase, severe floor clearance, stable breakover perspective, stable physique of strategies and departure angles, wheels set outdoors of the main physique, very stable 2-variety pass case, fold-down windshield, detachable superb and detachable doorways - it does that is job very nicely. that is even extra advantageous than Hummers in this appreciate using that is slender song and shorter physique. The Jeep is even much inexpensive in comparison with different SUV's leaving you with loads of extra money for upload-ons like skid plates, wheels/tires, lighting fixtures, chains, winch, etc...

No real cure, you can let a couple lbs. of air out of tire, but that's not too safe on the road. Slightly larger tires would also help, or you could try a Rancho 9000 adjustable shock or a different brand, and set them on soft ride.

Let a little air out of tires for softer ride, or get bigger tires (Wider) on small rims... had a 4X4 and had 31.50X12 X8 inchers on it and it had a nice ride over just about anything.

as i see it you have 2 options.... slow down or move to another location and avoid that road. there is no secret thing you can "fix" to lessen the washboard effect. it sucks but no way around it.
