Yes I wish I live in L.A. Hurricane Dean still too far south of here. but still have chance.... okay I explain you... Hurricane Dean go westward to Mexico then cross the Central America to Pacific Ocean will redevelop tropical storm rename Hurricane Gil for eastern Pacific(former Dean). Hurricane Gil may need to turn northward.... can toward southern California need rainfall... I hope this!!! If Hurricane Gil come here, you and I rather Dean!

It wouldn't be called Dean, but it is possible. Many of the model tracks show the remnant low re-emerging in the Pacific or Gulf of California, with some showing it moving up the Gulf. If it makes it out over open water it could easily regenerate into a hurricane, that's happened quite a few times before. The odds are against it being a hurricane if it ever gets to San Diego, but it is possible, and to those answerers who say San Diego has never had a hurricane, you would get an argument from Chris Landsea, Science and Operations Officer of the National Hurricane Center, who wrote a paper discussing a hurricane that DID hit San Diego in the 19th century. This is also an interesting year, because the waters off Southern California are amazingly warm. I went swimming today in San Diego and measured an ocean temperature of 80F! It's still relatively cool off of Baja, though, so any storm would need to move quickly up the coast, or follow the Gulf north.

As a final note, the GFS model (the primary weather forecasting tool for the NWS) indicates some rain for San Diego from the remains of Dean next weekend. Still pretty far off in the forecast window though.

NO. Dean will never reach San Diego.

The reasons for this are too many to explain, but let's start with the fact that a hurricane uses the heat from tropical oceans as fuel. Once a hurricane makes landfall it usually loses intensity and it's cellular structure very rapidly and just becomes a big, nasty, soggy, rainy storm.

Rest easy.

Do they not teach geography in San Diego anymore? Do you even realize how far away the gulf of Mexico is from you? This is the stupidest question on here…

Don't think so. Right now it is heading to go through Mexico. They have not said on T.V. it will reach any part of the States yet.

No, it's not going to get that far west. San Diego never has hurricanes hit. It will hit in the gulf somewhere.

Take a map, check how far it would have to go OVER LAND.
Hurricanes lose power the moment they make landfall, because they are powered by the head of the sea, because it needs moisture.

And then, it would have to make it ACROSS the mountains...

Probably not since it's heading into the Gulf of Mexico.

Dude, it is so hot, this is the first day really though.

There is no chance of it hitting us, but we might get some rain or something.
