I like some of the drama, especially when it is centered around the differences in how the separate groups of people view and practice plural marriages. However, I do have to agree with you that Bill's family was supposed to be the focal point of the ideal of how plural marriages should and were supposed to work. To see that falling apart and with Margene giving way also makes me sad. They have really lost track when they allow the foundation of the show to erode like that.
People here don't seem to understand that it isn't just about a polygamist family but also a religious family, that their plural marriage is supposed to be based on a spirituality, so the "normal" problems found in families should not be present within theirs. As Nikki told Barb, it isn't about just love. That love in itself could never be enough for that type of union.

They have to maximize the conflict in order to keep you on the edge of your seats for the season finale so that you will be dying for it to come back next season.
I do however think that it is interesting that you think the point of the show is to show the family in a certain light.. as if it is a functioning normal family. I really doubt that is the purpose of the show or that is the purpose of any drama on television the point is for them to experience conflict, resolve it and then experience another conflict so you keep watching it.
Truthfully this show seems more like the Sopranos than anything else to me.. you have warring polygamist factions with lots of power, money and control issues, and women who are kept in the dark.. and now we even have the law involved and shootings. It's all wrong, but I love it :)

Stop watching it. That's the problem with a lot of (if not most) TV shows is that they come up with a novel idea for a show and then ruin it with uncreative writing.
I watched the first season of Lost and, by the second or so episode of season 2, I got so frustrated with the "stringing us all along" aspect of it, I got bored and stopped watching. Same thing with Six Feet Under. It started out as a fresh, quirky show. But, within 2 seasons it's like the writers had to outdo themselves every week. I finally got tired of it and stopped watching (I did see and enjoy the finale, though).
My point is that, most TV shows that are on more than one season almost always start to go downhill some time in the next season or two. And, if you don't enjoy watching it any more, it's probably not going to get any better before it gets cancelled. Just accept that you got to enjoy what was a good show for a time and, when it no longer kept your interest, you went on to something else.

It was always like a "soap opera" but this season has been too much of the same. It is following the same formula as the first season and it is turning me off. I will still watch the season finally but I doubt I will watch the next season.
HBO is trying to bring the Sopranos mob stuff back in Big Love.

I think they are making an attempt to show any family the way it really is... things change, stuff happens and you deal with it. I think the show is evolving and I will be interested to see what happens next season. They could have only gone along without "drama" for so long before the show would have stopped being believable. I don't really have a problem with the direction the show has taken. I think that they are trying to show that the family goes through just as many problems as regular families do. It's just that they have the additional problem of not wanting to come out into the public as a polygamist family but see the outside world is really pressuring them and presenting hurdles that they have to overcome to maintain their privacy.

nicely, i'm no longer hyperactive and not in love with exclamation factors, so which you will no longer get the OMGZ!!!! HARRY POTTER!! from me, yet I even have been working for a Harry Potter fan website for 2 years making countdown clocks and designing banners, have long gone to 2 Harry Potter conventions, written 11 products of fan fiction, sculpted 3 Harry Potter proper sculptures, very own 30+ products of Harry Potter merchandise, and wrote a 20 website thesis paper, 6 years in the past, approximately Harry Potter and Mythology. a number of my only right acquaintances are those that I even have met online for the period of the Harry Potter community, and met in actual existence on the conventions. it is not a dishonorable award to be greatest Harry Potter fan whilst lots happiness and love and growth can come from being a die-complicated fan :D

Yes - I have noticed that. I'm watching it in Australia and we just finished series one, so I have no idea what's happening next, but its almost gone Bold and the Beautiful, without the incestuous marriages...yet. I was hoping they would show the Mormon side of family life, but now its just gone overboard, with the kids and Roman's interferences.

I started to really dislike all of the family about 2 weeks ago.
I think the point is they are supposed to show that they are just as disfunctional as any other family...
I'm still locked and loaded for tonight episode!

It's always been a soap opera. Every family has its ups and downs and rough periods. The show is just depicting that.
