NO I AM ON wireless thats why I asked, I just bought a new computer. The internet worked by itself kind of, now I'm having identity theft problems that make me want to get more educated on my situation.

The answer is 'Yes'. They can. I run a wireless network and our users who bring in their laptops are warned ahead of time that it can be intercepted. If you are using HTTPS websites for your banking, then you should be ok, since that data is encrypted. But all regular HTTP websites can easily be watched. Make sure you have a good firewall, not the Windows firewall, on your computer to prevent them from hacking into your PC directly.

Depends if they care of not. If they cared enough they could see everything you see, get all your passwords, etc. Most people don't care enough.

To avoid the problem, buy your own wireless router and enable encryption (I recommend WPA-PSK). Connect this to your internet connection (you need to subscribe to DSL, Cable, Fiber, etc) and then its safe again.

In general, your computer can communicate securely from point A to point B using public key encryption (implemented by most web browsers), however not all websites make use of this feature and if you are connecting to an unknown party for internet (wireless open router), the 3rd party can feed your computer fake keys thus enabling it to easdrop on your connection.

Make sure your Wireless router has WPA enabled to stop others nearby using your wireless internet for free.

Make sure you have no Sharing Folders.

no. your are misunderstanding what you have heard. they can only get into your internet. not your computer. and if you dont have wireless then they cant do anything to you. its only if you are using wireless(which i doubt you are) so dont worry about it
