If I was to ask a question and make it sound like I wanted people's opinions or them to tell me about themselves, I'd get lots of answers.

But if I word it differently, and basically tell them something about myself and expect them to reply with their stories anyways... then you don't get as many answers!

I try not to ask many questions about me. But do you think this is because people like talking about themselves? or just sharing stories??

I like asking questions about other people, and obviously so do a lot of people on here, because it's great to hear about peoples stories and experiences etc.

Does anyone even know what i'm talking about!?

Hi again my therapist! lol

I think its both, sharing stories and talking about themselves. Sometimes when ppl answer I also think they might share a lil more because they might want one of their contacts or ummm "friends", you know lol, to read the answer and know how they are feeling about something.

But yeah, I asked a ? like that today and got way more answers than normal. I think its easier for ppl to share personal stories in a place like this cause most of the ppl you don't really know in real life. Ya know? =)

Yes I understand what you said. And yes usually people do like to share stories that they themselves have gone thru. It might be a fond memory or it might be something not so good, but either way they are willing to share. Maybe it's to have the other person feel like they are not the only one who has done what ever the question is.

I really don't ask a bunch of questions, the ones I normally ask are serious ones, but I do find that I don't get many answers to the questions.

Good observation!

Yes, I know what you're talking about.

I think it's because people love talking about themselves. It's just human nature. I have found that in general, if there's something I want to discuss, it's much easier if I can relate it to something that has happened to the other person.

It is all about them isn't it? That's why I leave questions ambiguous. They think they are talking about themselves, but it teaches me things about myself. Open ended questions about themselves are wonderful. They sometimes like either or questions, but those don't teach as much unless worded intriguingly and you get someone who answers it still about themselves with an alternate answer.

i know what you are talking about. people like to talk about themselves because thet want to give vent to their feelings, share their ideas with others, or give their egos the chance to expand !
this hapens all the time. you just open your mouth to tell an episode, the listner starts another that happened to him, or gives you an analysis of why he had the same experience.
it's human nature.

I have noticed that also, just yesterday I was thinking about it, seriously.
I think most of us like to talk about ourselves, because we don't get interrupted, like for example in a conversation.
