My new novel is a mystery/thriller. It is published by a small publishing house in NY. The reviews and reader feedback have been great, but my publisher's promotional budget is small, so I am looking for ways to use the web to really get the word out. I am a novice in this area, so I would appreciate the help.

Create a website or a blog - post a very short but exciting extract - ask the community to read it (like here on Answers or Writers.com) and also, give us the name. Post other people's reviews on it. Make it interesting for us. Also, start with friends and family and school. Go on school-trips or book-fairs or libraries and give talks and read parts of the book. Advertise in newspapers, I think it's cheaper than any other sort of advertising. Get the word out - QUICK!
Oh, and congratulations on getting published - well done!

Check out my book on genre fiction promotion -- Intent to Sell (by Jeffrey Marks) You can also join the MurderMustAdvertise Yahoo Group, which gives suggestions on how to promote mystery/thrillers.

Hi, I'm a new author too. I've created a nice website and I pay only $5.95 a month. I've added a picture of my book for the homepage and I've added music and/or musical videos to each page. I have about 17 or 18 pages on my site. I have the music so that it is activated only when you click "play background music." The site was really hard to create but I basically taught myself. I was inspired by another person that I met on Yahoo Q&A and I received help from someone on Yahoo Q&A when I was trying to figure out how to add music. Please visit my site and tell your friends. http://www.rubysbooks.i8.com

Get a website made for yourself. As an author you should really have one. You can list your works on there, maybe even include sample chapters. Then start slapping that web address everywhere you can!

That's what I'd do anyway!
