Laptops are in general quite crappy. Moving computers around alot tend to screw with the insides.
Having dealt rather extensively with both Mac laptops and Dell laptops, I'd have to say that the Dell laptop broke more, BUT you can purchase complete care so they'll fix it no matter what, which is something Apple won't do.
A list of the parts I've had replaced in my Dell XPS laptop in the last 2 years since I got it.
2 video cards
3 hard drives
1 motherboard
1 battery.
I was in an environment where 50 people had the exact same laptop I had, and more than half had to get at least 2 major repairs done on their machines in the last 2 years. So the complete care plan totally paid off, but it did cost us some downtime waiting for repairs.
When I worked with Apple laptops, I heard about plenty of breakage as well, but I didn't hear about nearly as many computers having multiple repairs. But as I said, they don't have complete care, so they will only replace a part if it's defective (not a result of being dropped, smashed, spilled upon or any other accidental damage) But we also didn't spend as much time dealing with antispyware, antivirus and bloatware junk, so we didn't have nearly as much down time.

ok so i just compared the 2
the dell was 1973.00 and the macbook pro was 2499.00
mac is more expensive yes. then you still have to purchase all your anti this and spam that. mac has built in security in the bsd-based os. Macs dont need to be rebooted everyday. in fact i cant remember the last time i rebooted.
mac can run windows, dell cant. so kind of like 2 systems for 1 price. the whole software thing is a myth. i have pretty cool software that doesnt run on windows. i am not a gamer so those dont matter to me. If your into media then mac is the way to go. ilife is 80 bucks. show me a comparable windows package at that price that can handle all your media (music, movies, videos, pics and web design.
my toshiba was good for a year or 2. my powerbook is 3 years and counting.
i will never buy a pc again unless you enjoy pop-ups, daily security updates, virus protection, you spend have your time arm your system not to get attacked. while i spend my time enjoying the perks of my system. and yes when leopard comes out i will be getting a new imac

Cant compare these two...it depends on what's ur preference....can you handle OSX or are you a windows guy?
If you want to compare in terms of the design/ hardware, i would say Mac. Gotta love the case materials of the macbook (pro). Mac are very well known for their designs. Mac hardware are more reliable.
If you want to compare in terms of operating system, i would say Dell. More software out there compatible with Windows vs. Mac.
If you want to compare the cost. Dell. Dell is so much cheaper than the Macbook.
If you want to compare which laptop give you the most attention. Macbook. I'm getting a Macbook Pro this thursday so I can look cool at a meeting. HHAHAHAA I know. i'm Stupid.
FYI: If you end up getting a Macbook and needed to run some applications that are Windows-Based...look into Boot Camp or Parallel. Those are software that allow you to install Windows OS to your macbook pro. If you are going to do that, I suggest you have a good amount of memory for your laptop.

Well because Dell laptops run Windows I would have to say the mac. Mac can RUN Windows!
There is at least 100000 reasons why you should go with a mac. I love everything about mine (I have a MacBook Pro) , and I'm so glad that I made the switch from PC to Mac.
Yeah, true, the price for the Dell computers are cheaper. But thats only because the product is cheap itself. You'll be so sick and tired of rebooting/buying firewall and spyware anti virus software. And when you loose all your files because your computer crashed, don't tell me that I didn't warn you.

I wouldn´t purchase ether of them if i became you. Macs are extra suitable for photograph/video enhancing than domicile windows based pc, in case you dont purchase any application for the domicile windows based. yet whilst paying for a mac, you pay alot for the form, and you finally end up getting little application for your cash, this does too count form with dell. different than which you get a sprint extra via paying for a dell, yet nonetheless a form. agencies likke dell, asus, acer, hp and such are only the onces who placed the pc together, so only purchase the pc with the only right hardware for the only right fee.

Not the Mac.
However, if you want an operating system that has the least amount of software available, be my guest, buy the Mac.
If you want a laptop that can't handle most games, buy the Mac.
If you want a laptop that's completely overpriced, buy the Mac.
And you want to know something? Macs don't have less viruses because they have "superior security". Nope, that's complete BS. They have less viruses because they have far less software to infect, and less users to target.
If you knew how to properly use a computer, you wouldn't have to worry about viruses anyways.
