No because the mold could have been caused by you. Unless you just moved in and it was there before you. Clean it up or tell the landlord to clean it up. Some places will make you pay for damage mold causes because your suppose to report it to the lordlord so they can fix it.

How can you hold the landlord responsible for something you should keep clean?
The landlord might ask you why your not taking the responsibility to clean the place proper.

After the dishes are done in our house, the garbage is taken out and a new bag put in. The sink underneath is then wiped down so it doesn't get "mold" and it's sprayed with Lysol to prevent mold. Then the floors and cleaned and wiped down, all the kitchen areas are cleaned.
Everything is then wiped down with a clean rag with bleach on it and the floors washed. My mother did it, and we do it, all my kids do it, before bedtime.

When you come to the kitchen in the morning, it smells fresh, it's clean and you don't have a sink full of dirt dishes.

"Rusty" is totally wrong: I'm a former MedLab technologist and worked for a big medical firm and, hospital, I have four hard years of chemistry and medical lab experience. I have worked with molds of all types, he has never worked with the black mold that do come into the houses. Some are so bad they can cause severe respiration problems. He has never worked around these molds or he would know it. We have treated both housewives and children that lived in homes where black mold were present, these were causing severe problems to people that lived in these areas.

Some black molds are considered very dangerous. The carpenters and other construction workers that he "claims" make thousands off molds are not talking about these molds. He's giving a false news about these.

No you shouldn't. The landlord probably doesn't even know it is there and it could have grown since you have been there. Don't play the blame game otherwise your landlord will get cranky and won't be leniant with you in the future or might even evict you if you go accusing them of something. It is the tenants responsibility to report this sort of thing so if you have just found it, report it and let them know you think it might be making you sick and you would appreciate it if something could be done as soon as possible about it. Don't go blaming them for something you are supposed to report.

i agree with rusty
as you probably have asbestos in your unit
but since that been sued to death everyone now is going for the mold angle
and if the mold is under your sink and you are not under there, then it's static and if damp it's fine, it when it dried and the spores become airborne then it can make you sick, but i doubt it's dry under the sink
bleach it and be done with it
call the landlord and ask him to replace the risers and the angle stops, as those usually leak over time, especially on the hot side

You would have to prove that it was there before you moved in( and you didn't create it) which is easy to do by letting water drip onto the counter and under the sink lip.
He may come after you for not notifying him sooner, as mold and rot are the same, and he needs to jump on it to keep ahead of the rot.
Otherwise leave the doors open under the kitchen sink and get air circulating in there to kill the mold.(It grows best in moist and damp, dark conditions.

That mold isnt making you sick, your mind is. I work around mold all the time and I never ever get sick. Most people arent sick until they discover the mold. I personally think the whole mold issue is a bunch of hooey for 99% of people. Plumbers, carpet guys, and general contractors use mold to bleed insurance companies dry.

absolutely, I lived in an apartment that was kind of underground it was a bottom floor apartment, and I never had allergies until I lived there, but anyway the air conditioner leaked and ruined some things I had in the bottome of my closet, I lifted up the carpet and found black mold throughout half of my apartment, it is your landlords responsibility to maintain the property, well to make a long story short they didn't want to fix it we got the health department involved and we were refunded six months of rent and our security deposit and got to break our lease for free. So tell them to fix it.
