An american doctor, Dr. Duncan MacDougall, actually tried to measured the soul. He concluded that the soul weighed 21 grams as this was the difference in weight before and after the death of a person according to his experiments. His findings however were not validated due to claims that his methods were shaky and that he had only a small sample size.
But personally, I've always wondered what makes us move..and why we cease to move when we die. what makes our heart beat? what makes us think? and how we lose all this when we die. There must be something that's inside us..some energy that empowers us to do all this movements and to make all the systems in our body to work; something that leaves the body as well when we die. I believe that something, that energy, is what we know as the soul.

The soul is defined as the first act of a body having potential life. Since such a body has existence , it has an act of being
and the first act enables the body to be a living body.
This is well defined as everything in existence must have a
first act of being. It remains only to deduce some of the
special properties of the soul of a rational animal, and this
seems to be the source of much controversy. An immediate and surprising result that follows from the definition is that
the soul has no parts. A thing composed of parts is in potency with respect to the parts, which represent a prior
act, which means that the thing is not a first act, but the soul
is a type of first act and is therefore part less. This means
also that the soul does not dissolve or decay into parts,
and is therefore not subject to the ravages of time as other things which come and go, and this makes the soul
immortal.
This argument is not physical science, but is metaphysics in
the scholastic sense; an abstract version of the usual
sciences, which benignly governs them, and which is
accessible to the average person.

Well, you have to ask what exactly is a "soul?" Everyone deliberates it, but few attempt to define just what we're talking about.
What science has shown is that in examining the physical body, the brain, the atoms, and so on of a human body, they have so far been unable to identify the thing that makes each individual unique from every other individual. However, every human has had the experience of being a unique individual. We accept our uniqueness as a fact. There is no question that we are unique, like snowflake. But what is it that makes unique. I suggest it's a soul. The soul is a bit of energy, without which we lose our uniqueness. It's the entity within our body which says "I am." It's a quiet voice of the perfect being within each of us. It's who we really are.
The soul is not the part of you that judges, and says things like, "I am good looking; I am funny; I am successful; I am happy; I am frustrated." That's the mind. To find the soul, you must quiet your mind. You must get to know yourself.
The soul knows only love. And most people don't come into it's presence, even though it lives within themselves.
"The term 'Know Thyself' was a spiritual lesson and even a doctrine in ancient Egypt that meant; the Kingdom of Heaven is inside each and every man and woman, thus to go inside yourself, not only do you find the Kingdom of Heaven but you find and know yourself as well." ~ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Know_thyself

Truly there is a spirit that exists in all of us this truth is stated in the Bible if you believe in the Bible. Look at it like this. Say for instance you are on the operating table. Isn't it weird how they have to shock you back to life if you flat line. The reason people come back to life is because of their spirit which I believe is often referred to as the soul. It is not of this world but a separate plane that separates this world from the next. True our bodies are made up of atoms, and scientific things of that nature but there is more to it than that. The reason people die is because the spirit/soul has left the body. If it does not leave we continue living.

well i dont think its fair for you to ask this question and in the process..point out that there is no scientific proof....especially right after u stated "One can argue that the soul does not die, by reminding of the fact that it gets out of the body.. It's somewhow moving away from this dying matter.."...because wheres the proof in that?.... i think it should not be questioned and its just whether or not you believe in it or not...simple as that......the soul is your spiritual part apart fromt he physical. You feel, think and act through your soul but your body is what carries them through and puts them into action physically..thats wat most ppl believe is the soul....many others will believe that its just ur brain.... so really...if you want to go scientifically...u'll probably think its the brain....but if u want to believe theres more to it then just that...then you'll believe in the spiritual part of you....pretty confusing i guess...

Well, you are right, we can't prove my have a soul. But then again, how can we prove the begginings of earth, or the world. A sould is a spiritual thing that when one dies, if you have lived God's will, the soul will go to heaven. your soul is you, it's those thoughts you thinnk and feelings u have. We can support this agreement threw saints that have lived and had visions of the Lord and what heaven will be like. since these were real people, we can prove this.

You won't like my answer. But death can be anaologous to mysteries that will forever remain unsolved by mortal man.
Does man have a soul? What is that voice that you hear inside your head that only you hear and nobody else? You say it's the mind. I think it is your soul. I have never felt my soul age. I doublt if anyone has. I think then that my soul is seperate from my body in that it does not feel the old age of the body.
The soul or mind if you will can think of things seperate from the body like the world of ideas. How can the mind or the soul contemplate that which existed before he even lived? Or for that matter before man ever came into existence.
We call a man wise who discovers the secrets of the universe like the Laws of Thermodynamics or Gravity. Yet we do not consider that they are are discovering laws that preexisted before man. Are they not brilliant in their own right just for behaving the way they do, long before the mind of man discovered it?
The soul of man has discovered many things and man himself is the best example of this. He has created sky scrappers and roads and cell phones and air planes and ships and muscial instruments and computers. All these he has gotten out of the ground because he has learned their secrets. He has even discovered ways to heal himself with the plants and animals.
The mind and soul of man has created things that are seperate from this earth. Those things did not come that way. Instead it took man to do this. To use his mind to make those things. Does not that suggest a brilliant being that created man to do these tihngs?
Does man have a soul? I think so. For every tyrant who says God is dead and brutalizes his fellow man. There is a believer in the midst of the struggle, in the midst of pain, in the midst of hurt, who survives because of something deep and eternal within himself that knows he belongs to something greater than himself. To that which created the soul.

I have no need to.argue a case for my soul. I carry it in human bodies that best serve me for the purpose I'm here which is to learn and to teach. I need not argue with children what wisdom I have acquired.

You can not really prove you have a soul, but I know we do. It's just a matter of faith. I believe it. I know it. I live my life every day with this belief. One day, I will see the souls of my parents in Heaven. Oh, what joy awaits those of us who are fortunate enough to be able to go there. Grams

I'm one to believe there is a soul since I've experienced out-of-body journeys before and soul-traveling journeys in the form of lucid dreams,I would be one to say yes, everyone has their own opinions and beliefs in reference to this. question.
