America was first inhabited by Native Americans, then Christopher Columbus came in 1492, the ''New World'' was discovered by Europeans for the first time. From then on America was inbabited by mixed European countries. The original 12 colonies was occupied by the British Empire. And finally to answer your question America was officially discovered to be the United States of America in July 4th, 1776 (Declaration of Independence) by the American founding fathers...George Washington, Jone Hancock, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Marshall...etc. etc. Later came the Constitution in 1807 which really made the U.S, the U.S.

America was founded with the ratification of the Constitution of the United States. Prior to that the States maintained complete sovereignty.
So the founding of the United States (America) was 21 June 1788. Some might even make the case that the Founding began with the ratification of the Bill of Rights, 15 December 1791.

The country The United States of America was founded when the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776. The constitution was adopted starting the American Government on September 17, 1987. The first British colony in America was Jamestown in 1607. The actual land that became American was first discovered by a group of Europeans lead Leif Ericson, a Viking, around 1000 AD. Columbus of course found it in 1492.

"America" was never "founded" - there is no country by that name. If you mean "The United States of America", then it was at the signing of the Declaration of Independance, in 1776.
If you mean "discovered", then: in the late 800s AD, Gunnbjörn Ulfsson (a Viking) discovered Greenland. Eric the Red led the settlement of the land, and from there they spread down through eastern Canada. The settlement was abandoned in the late 15th century.
Always remember that this is when Europeans discovered America. Natives were already living there.
PS: Columbus was centuries behind the times - after all, around 330 BC, Aristotle provided evidence for the spherical Earth.

No. Most of the Founding Fathers were Deists, not Christians. Deists believe that a higher power created the universe, then stepped away. In other words, there are no rules handed out by the supreme being, and there is no Bible. Deism is a far cry from Christianity. The New World was all about religious freedom, which means there is NO official religion. PERIOD.

Well, the Pilgrims first came here in 1620, and then the colonies were formed in the 1600's and 1700's, but it wasn't until 1776 that the Declaration of Independence was written and signed, declaring our independence from England.

When was the Declaration of Independence signed?
Unless you mean colonized, not founded? In which case, Roanoke was the first colony in America. (Well there's some debate whether it was or not, since it failed and disappeared, but that's neither here nor there.)
