Is it possible to upgrade from AMD Turion 64 to AMD Turion 64 X2?

I plan on upgrading my laptop and one thing I wanted was to upgrade my CPU

It's an Acer Aspire 3949

Possible, X2 Turion will fit the socket. BUT it still depends on whether your laptop's BIOS supports the X2. If it is an old BIOS, it might not recognize the X2 and possibly run it as a single core. A BIOS update might do the trick.
