I used a shade blend of grass that I got from the Lowes which already had fertilizer and that green stuff (to keep the birds from eating the seed). I watered it twice daily and had grass growing in 2 weeks. Now if I can just keep the bunnies from eating it to the ground...You might want to throw some soil amendment like peat to enhance the soil a little to get it to root better, faster.

Grass needs sunshine...maybe trim back the trees some (assuming that is what is causing the shade)?
Sod is the easiest, quickest and most effective way to grow any grass. You will most likely need a couple of inches of GOOD topsoil thrown over the red clay...lay the sod & water reallllllly well until the roots establish.

Grass won't grow in deep shade. You will need to cut down some trees or at least remove the lower branches so that sun can get to the yard.

Cut a couple trees.
