I posted a question asking if it was OK for a man to cheat on his wife if she had no interest in sex due to menopause. I had to laugh when I saw so many responses that took me to task. Fact is, I do not favor it. Is it human nature to assume the worst? Or did I hit a nerve with a lot of women?

LOL Good one man... But don't you think that assuming the worst is more advantageous in the evolutionary terms? I.e., if you see the leaves moving, you might assume it's the wind, or you might assume it's a tiger. It doesn't cost you anything if you assume the former, and it is in fact the wind; but it will cost you dearly if you make this same assumption, and happen to be wrong.... So yeah, it pays to assume the worst, so this is how our minds tend to work.

Probably hit a nerve.
When anyone asks that kind of question I guess that I assume that they are thinking about doing it! Probably the wrong thing to assume. But why ask it then??

well when people ask a question it normally concerns them personally.
and of course a question like that would hit a nerve. sounds like something from back in the day where women's lives consisted of protecting the virginity, being a breeding factory, satisfying your man, and then being tossed aside because you served your purpose.

You probably did .. It's never OK to cheat, but people still do. I guess it's human nature too. The society is split on puritans and hypocrites. So why ask ..

Welcome to Marriage and Divorce, John K.

As such a staunch conservative, why would you post such an obviously irreverent question?

I would not expect that kind of behavior from a card-carrying conservative.

Hit a nerve?

Hardly. Your question was intended to incite and it probably did.

People don't "assume" anything. You posted a question and they took it as face value.

If you were being disingenuous, that's too bad.

You obviously have never had a close relationship with a woman in menopause. But THAT in itself is an assumption isn't it.

When people ask a question and leave out something that could change how we answer......that's silly and a waste of time.

What's the point?

we are factual people, expecting the worst of answers, but then reading facts into those answers when they come back
