Being "successful in life" has absolutely nothing to do with schooling.
To be successful in life, you set your goals and then, set your priorities in the direction of your goals.
Degrees and certifications may help to stabilize you financially, but I know a man, personally, that makes a 7-figure salary and has never used his degree.
Find what makes you happy. Find a job that allows you to do that. Find a way to make that job into a career. That is where you will find success in life.

Well, a lot depends on that. If you want to be a doctor...that takes a degree. What do you want to do? I do think that people waste time (and money) on getting a college degree because they don't know what they want to do and they get a degree in Business Administration or Art History. You DO need to have some skills. I went to college and got an Associate Degree (some years back) and studied typing, shorthand and bookkeeping. The skills have been invaluable for me in my life. So, in today's world that is going to translate into basic computer skills and basic accounting skills. You are going to need that to be a successful citizen, spouse, parent, etc. Unless you want to learn a trade like air conditioning, etc.
The most beneficial thing I did (even though it was later in life) was for my husband and I to join the Peace Corps and work in Africa for 2 years. Every young person should do something like that. The experience is life-changing. The young people we served with (that were straight out of college) matured soooooo much while they were in-service.
I'm not the type that says, "Pursue what you love in life and you will be successful." I was raised in a poor, rural community where I learned that I need basic skills for making sure I could get a job to take care of myself. I have lived in the Virgin Islands, Hawaii, etc. and I have never been someplace that I couldn't find employment. AND, even if I took an entry-level job, it didn't take me long to move up because I always make myself invaluable to the company.
Do you have employable skills? That's the bottom line.
Good luck!

No you don't. Some people are really lucky and win the lottery. Some are really lucky and come up with the better mouse trap. Some people are really lucky and are born with a wealthy family.
If you're one of the "some people" then you will do just fine without a college education. You can remain as uneducated as you'd like to.
If you're one of those people who really likes menial labor employment - a college education isn't required. There are plenty of people who are very happy with their life as a cashier, custodian, bus driver, cafeteria worker, etc... and these are very fine occupations that have to be done.
If you're not one of the "some people" and you're like the rest of us, "normal Joe", then you'll find that a college education really can make a difference in both your earning potential and your lifestyle.
just my thoughts

Yes.....some bachelor's degree program can make on average 30K more a year than a person with a high school dipolma. Community college do offer certificate and Associate program for a lot cheaper price.

That would depend on what you define as successful.
I have no degrees or certificates of any kind, but at the moment I am responsible for and manage a team of staff.

not necessarily. I finally finished mine and it hasn't done a whole lot for me. It's nice expensive piece of paper that no one can take away from. It's all a matter of who you know and what kind of ambition that you have.
Good luck
