Dorothy or some other name? And what is the Bulgarian connection. Sorry to sound slightly gossipy about this but an earlier posting mentioned hypocrisy and it would be interesting to see what yahoo answers throws up.

It is rumored! It is not a known fact! The rumor has it that the hierarchy has some gay episcopes and those have female nicknames!
And of course this question is gossip!
By the way the name “Dorothy” is NOT Latin!!!
Dorothy is the English type of the Greek female name "Dorothea" which is the female form of the male "Dorotheos" which is from "Doron"(Δώρον)(gift)
and "Theos"(Θεός)(God). So “Dorotheos” or “Dorothea”, or “Dorothy” means “gift from God”.

Dorothy is a female name -not a greek one - and has been used by some tv media to refer to gay priests in greece, especially those that are "pathetic" during sex between homosexuals. I mean these that play the female part during sex.
There was some sort of scandal a couple of years ago with some priest that were involved in such stories. However, has never implied by anyone that Christodoulos has taken part in any of these actions.
There are rumors that he assisted the military junta but never that he is homosexual.

btw, there is no bulgarian connection.

I always thought that DOROTHY was derived from Latin.
(I'm no Latin scholar)

From Donos = a donation =gift
From Theus = GOD.

But beyond this I can't help....Sorry.
