Sure. first we must understand that we are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies.
This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) Which culminates in the chanting the Maha mantra (The great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion, which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life they can return to the eternal Kingdom where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy. That is true immortality. The fact is we must leave this mortal body. Which do you choose another one next life or eternal life. I choose eternal life and found the simple sublime process. I love it.
For info. Go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita- As it is by Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada asitis.com you can read it on line

1) A synthesis of most of the above suggestions. We live on through other people whose lives we touch.
The better a parent you are the more likely your kids will tell their kids about you.
The better a person you are, the more people will say things like "Hey do you remember Auntie Nigel? - Wasn't she the best person, even despite the cruel name her parents gave her."
Great works also affect people, so novels, music, groundbreaking science all allow you to "live on" through your influence on others. The more numerous and notable the works, the better the chances that some "part" of you will last.
Of course your infamy might also gain immortality if you do spectacular or numerous evil deeds, but hopefully no-one in this forum harbours a desire to be remembered as (for example) the greatest squirrel-torturer who ever lived.

2) Of course none of that guff allows your intellectual awareness or physical presence to continue, so your best bet may be drinking the blood of virgins. My spooky undead buddies swear by it...

Einstein theorised that time is the fourth dimension of the 3d space-time universe. I believe that this means that, the past, the future, and the present are, & always have been, & always will, be part of the universe. When you come to the end of your life you will still be alive in the universe in the past, & you will no longer be trapped in the present. You will live for ever in the past, from the begining of your life, to the end, then back to the begining, forward, & backward. In fact just as your doing right now. 3d space-time is a scientific theory, not a fact, but it is consistent with experiment, & observation.

Immortality: "To live life thoroughly, always different from the rest - and to die proudly, the best of deaths - only through a great life and a great death will man be truly immortal."

Only when you give joy to people when you are alive, and give them grief when you die, can you be considered immortal. Only when you leave behind a legacy will your name never be forgotten.

I feel immortality is selfish. All living things are born and then die. It's the part of the natural cycle of life. Who are you or anybody that deserves immortality?

lol - the secret is...ther is no secret - you're immortal already. you want immortality in this plane? you're gonna have to learn real alchemy...and that kinda means doing the gurdjieff/ouspensky thing for a few years before you even start...you're sure you wouldn't just rather come back again?

thats the nearest we get
for people to talk about us and recognise us years after we are dead... unfortunately Hitler and Stalin enjoy this too so it is not only for the good things we do.

The philosopher's stone. But that was destroyed in Harry Potter.

How about the secret to living a good life while you are here: learn to appreciate life.
