When the people of that region believe that those things are worth starting a popular revolt to attain. I fear that the U.S. government and military haven't shown them a very good example of democracy in action by trying to force democracy on them. To the people of the Middle East democracy must look allot like imperialism.

When they're allowed to. As long as foreign interests keep supporting those puppet regimes for the good of western pockets of a few, there will not be democracy.
We get our panties in a wad about Iran, but it was us who didn't allow for them to have a democracy in the 50's, because British Petrolium preferred the Shah to Mosadeg. Look up operation Ajax... read it and weep:
