Do you think they want to look that different than their 'photoshoped and overly perfect looking' headshots, or is it a thing where they are trying to show the director at the audition what the possibilities are for their face on film?

Anyone have some good insight here?

Photoshop (or professional retouching) should be used sparingly for things like too much shine, uneven light, blemishes, etc. Not to make you look 'better'. If you don't walk in the door looking like your photo, they won't ever call you back. You headshot is your business card. It's very unprofessional to change your photo so much that you don't even resemble it. The casting directors will just get annoyed and any legit agent won't let you get away with it to begin with.

My two cents

No. Its no longer a head shot - its a cropped wedding ceremony photograph. there is yet somebody else in it, even with the cropping. Have a photographer (no longer your buddy, yet somebody you PAY to shoot the photograph) try this for you. Its nicely easily worth the money. the image you published, apart from being cropped, has exposure matters - the backside is a few distance to blown out (white.) they could do it in studio or exterior (with suitable fill lighting fixtures) and you will have Make up and hair achieved via a consultant. verify criagslist for MUAs. Photographers you could google, and evaluate the portfolios heavily. frequently the cheap guy isn't a good purchase. you're able to be able to desire to be the megastar of your head shot - no longer an aside.
