Melbourne, cause it's more familiar. Sydney only has got a beautiful harbour but unfortunately this city is very chaotic and hectic.

Without a doubt it has to be Melbourne. Even Robert De Nirro prefers Melbourne, because as he said that Melbourne is the best in Australia. There is good food here, and there is good shopping centres, where clothing is not so expensive. If you want to go to the various sporting venues, you can catch either the free tram or bus.

I have lived in both and loved both but prefer Sydney. Sydney has everything Melbourne has plus the Harbour and beaches.

this must be a trick question? why i ask is because Sydney would win hands down - Harbour bridge , Sydney opera house, Sydney tower , centennial parks , national parks, Darling Harbour , King St Wharf, Oxford St etc etc.... all in travelling distance - Melbourne um mm . ..........wait a minute , I'll come up with some thing some .........brown murky water in the middle of the city .......o' cafes ......but Sydney has them also .......I'll keep thinking about that one

Im from Melbourne, so that's my favorite.
However, I also love Sydney.
Whatever anyone says, you can't really compare the 2. They are completely different types of cities, and there are good and bad about both.

I visit both on a regular basis and both have good points and bad.I live in country NSW and would not even try to guess which city is best.
Of course,those who come from either Sydney or Melbourne are going to pick their own city as favourite.
personally,I enjoy myself in either city.
To be honest though my favourite city in Oz is Perth.

Melbourne is great for the arts and theatre.
Sydney,s harbour is beautiful, it wins.
