Water was leaking on to my air conditioner plug and now the plug keeps tripping what can I do?

The water was leaking from my air conditioner and when I found out it was to late. The water actually got on the plug and the plug has a circuit breaker on it. Everytime I put it in the wall now it trips on its circuit breaker, not the socket here at our house. When it dries will it work again or will I have to buy a new air conditioner?

tilt the air conditioner towards the outside of the house also you may not have the unit ouside enough from the window also a ground fault receptacle will trip if you you change the receptacle instead of the breaker but obviously it is better by far to solve the water problem ...aswell you should have your air conditioner on its own circuit as it is a heavy draw..try sticking a few shims under the air condioner or a strip of one quarter inch or half inch plywood this should achive the slope desired

If after it dries out it still does not work. You can buy a new plug for the end of the cord. Most older window A/C units did not have built in breakers on the cord and they worked just fine.

It's not the air conditioner, its the plug, and the socket. You have a short. Turn everything off. Dry it out. It should be ok, but find another way to divert the water away from the plug in the future. Your a/c should be slightly tipped outside, not inside, for the water, condensation to drain properly.

Once it dries out it should be okay, your best bet is to put a fan blowing onto the plug to help dry it out.
Or try using a hair dryer aimed at the plug to dry it out.

if water is leaking back into the home, the a/c isn,t tilted right, it should have a slight tilt to the out side, so water from the coils can run out side
