Seagal Seeks FBI Apology for Derailing His Career
Actor Steven Seagal is seeking an apology from the Federal Bureau Of Investigation, for allegedly harming his career by implicating he hired a private detective to intimidate journalists from writing unflattering stories about him. The 56-year-old has made 12 movies since 2001's Exit Wounds - all have been released directly onto DVD, bypassing cinemas, and Seagal is convinced the leaked release of an October 2002 FBI affidavit linking him to the mob is responsible for his decline in popularity. The affidavit detailed how Seagal hired private eye Anthony Pellicano to threaten reporters, before the investigation focused entirely on Pellicano, who is now in prison awaiting a trial on charges including wire-tapping, But Seagal has never been publicly cleared by

the FBI, and the actor wants this done so his reputation is immediately restored, reports the Los Angeles Times. Seagal recently said, "False FBI accusations fuelled thousands of articles saying that I terrorize journalists and associate with the Mafia. These kinds of inflammatory allegations scare studio heads and independent producers - and kill careers." He added, "I was sick of hearing my name associated with a crime the government knew I had nothing to do with. Until it happens to you, you can't imagine what it does to your life."

another slant on this ...

Steven Segal wants you to think blaming stories originating from the FBI investigation of the Anthony Pellicano case ruined his career by giving him the image of a criminal.

“False FBI accusations fueled thousands of articles saying that I terrorize journalists and associate with the Mafia,” Seagal told the newspaper. “These kinds of inflammatory allegations scare studio heads and independent producers — and kill careers.”

Since when? Studio heads and producers have engaged in similar tactics themselves at one point. For that matter your average rap star comes with a criminal bio, real or imagined, and has no trouble making the jump to Hollywood stardom. Roman Polanski is a fugitive and yet keeps making movie. If Wesley Snipes manages to dodge the charges against him I don’t doubt he has a career waiting for him, despite beating Halle Berry so badly she lost the hearing in one ear.

Seagal, 56, was once a major star of action movies such as 1992’s “Under Siege,” which earned $156 million at worldwide box offices, but now he makes straight-to-DVD releases such as “Flight of Fury and “Attack Force.”

Which would imply some sort of strange event that led from one to the other but 15 years have passed since 1992. That’s a long time in a movie career and Segal isn’t the only guy with a hit in 1992 who’s making direct to DVD releases now.

Steven Segal was only a serious bankable movie star briefly and a good deal of that involved having a major hit with Under Siege but Segal was never able to capitalize on it. Instead he then starred in a series of misses, including a disastrous movie about evil Alaskan oil drillers which he himself directed and a sequel to Under Siege, Under Siege 2 Dark Territory, which also bombed.

None of this was particularly unusual. After all it’s pretty much Sylvester Stallone’s career too. Or Arnold Schwarzenegger or there but for a string of challenging roles, Bruce Willis’ career.

The 80’s action stars saw their careers begin to waver in the 90’s and then become entirely irrelevant in the 00’s. Sylvester Stallone had to dig back into the Rocky can to produce a successful movie and he had to promote the hell out of it first. And even so it was no great hit. Before that Stallone had been doing direct to DVD releases too.

Before becoming governor, Schwarzenegger had starred in a series of bombs right down to The Seventh Day and Around the World in 80 Days. Steven Segal was in the end subject to the same laws of cinematic gravity.

After seeing that last flop of his where the special effects people could not even keep the F16's from magically coming F-18's and f-15's, who cares? Besides Segal has been claiming this CIA, BlackOps angle for years saying that is where he learned his skills. My bet, he has a new movie about to be released and after that lasts straight to DVD flop, he is trying to get all the Publicity he can get, any way he can get it!!
What was that movie uh, Something of Fury; was it Fists of Fury or something like that guys?

There is a nasty rumor that Segal could actually act but I have never seen any evidence to prove that.

they ruined his career because you're not supposed to have the same number of letters in your last name as you do in your first name.
