Me & two of my girl friends have planned to go to Birmingham for a night out this weekend. Weve planned to go to 'The Works' night club, which is in Broad street i think, correct me if i'm wrong. I was really excited about going, but have now been advised against the idea by another friend & some members of my family. They told me that Birmingham is quite a dangerous place to go, lots of stabbings & high crime rate. I know some parts of Birmingham are rougher than others, but is this the case for the area & club that we are going to? Would be really greatfull for some advice, as i can't decide wether to go or not. Would be good to hear from people that actualy live in Birmingham & know the area well. We are all from North Devon by the way, so are not city people ourselves :-)

Sugar: You have got nothing to worry about, just take the train to Birmingham New Street. Take a taxi or walk to Broad St and start partying. You can start at Hardrock hotel and club hobbing all the way to MIC.

There is also a Travelodge and couple of other decent hotels on Broad Street if you need to stay overnight.

There are cops on Broad St. after midbight I would not worry about anything particularly you are in group.

Been there done that.

The Night Out Birmingham

Brum is a wicked place for a night out! People always slag the place off and say its rough but its just like any other city anywhere in the world, problems do happen but not often! Broad street is one of the safest places to go, there are police everywhere, street wardens and bouncers on nearly every door! Also Hurst street is a real good laugh, a lot of gay bars there so theres hardly any trouble. Birmingham is a great night out! and as for the people who have said its not safe...i wonder have they ever actually been to Birmingham??

Ok! I used to live in Brum and yes it can be a bit rough, especially compared to Devon. I have also been to this club (the works). Its is at the top of broad street so you have your bearings right. It plays all kinds of music and has bouncers. Its a really big place but ok if your into popular modern music.
PROBLEM: Broad street has every piss head and idiot in birmingham on a friday and saturday. You will queue for drinks and cabs to wherever you are staying. Stay in a group and leave a little earlier than most people to make getting a cab easier for yourselves. From what I remember, every one runs into the street to catch cabs rather than queue. Broadstreet is all about clubs and its quite long so all of these people need a cab at the end of the night. Please get a cab together!!!!!! Cab drivers can be the idiot of the night you were waiting for......especially to females if you know what I mean.
I dont want to scare you but its really like that. Get to the club......have a good time and get a cab out of there before the others. Have a good time really. :-)

I moved to birmingham 2 years ago from the country side, bit of a culture shock, Broad st is fairly safe, lots of police & street wardens & manned taxi ranks, haven't been to the works recently, three rooms, upstairs is R&B that sort of stuff, main room down stairs is dance music smaller room to the side, is indie/rock (long time since I've been if I'm worng), most places are open until 3 maybe 4am on broad st so no real need to go to a club... or try one of the other clubs all of the taxi drivers know where they are-went to oceana last weekend (by the radison-hurst st) lots of places depends what you like...

It really is not as bad as people make out, I was born and bred in Birmingham some years. In those days men were men and women were glad of it, not like these losers nowadays who think that the world owes them a living. Souped up cars, baseball caps and no brains that sort, come along and I'll protect you with my assortment of weapons,ha ha only joking. It really is a friendly city.

Broad Street is well lit and most pubs have door staff / security, but like any other city there will be drunks around.

There are other ways to enjoy yourselves without taking risks!
