whats the curse of the albatros?

In the rhyme of "The Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.an albatross is following the Mariner's ship. An Albatross can be good luck for a ship, but in killing the Albatross with his crossbow , the Ancient Mariner brings disaster and death to everyone on the ship, but himself.

It is a ancient law of the sea that if a seaman kills an albatross, through the entire voyage the albatross must hang from his neck or the ship will suffer terrible travails.

It comes from a poem about a captain who shoots one. Here is the link. It's sort of long but pretty cool. I've known it since I was a kid
